Older Mac versions – downloading v6.07**
- Note: It is highly recommended that you download Case It v7, rather than use the download links below, providing that you are running Mac OS 10.8 or higher (Mountain Lion through High Sierra). It is much more stable than the earlier Mac versions.
- If you have any difficulties with Case It v7 or would prefer to run Case It v6.07 for any reason, then the PC version of Case It v6.07 can be run on the Mac with Wine Stable 2.03, just as Case It v7 can be. Simply download the PC version of Case It v6.O7 and install Wine Stable and XQuartz using the same instructions as those provided with Case It v7, but use Case It v6.07 instead.
If you decide to download older Mac versions, use the procedure below:
- Use Spotlight (magnifying icon at upper right of the Mac desktop) to search for ‘X11’. If ‘XQuartz’ does not appear as an Application, then download XQuartz and double-click on the .dmg file to install.
- Determine which version of the Mac operating system you are using by clicking the Apple icon in the upper left of your desktop, and choosing ‘about this Mac’. Note that versions prior to 10.7 will not work with Case It.
- If you are running OSX version 10.7, click here to download Case it for Lion.
- If you are running OSX version 10.8 or 10.9, click here to download Case it for Mountain Lion or Mavericks.
- If you are running OSX version 10.10, or 10.11, or 10.12, click here to download Case It for Yosemite or El Capitan or Sierra. Before doing so, click here to read an important disclaimer regarding saving images.
- After downloading the .zip file, double click to unzip, and click on the Case It Mac 607 app that appears. The app may take 10 seconds or more to open, especially the first time, so be patient. It will open on a blue ‘virtual desktop’, in a window on the Mac desktop. Results from Case It analyses can be saved to the Mac desktop.
- The Case It version for the Mac has multiple windows on the virtual desktop. If you have difficulty making windows come to the front (such as the ELISA window), drag the main window a short distance and the hidden windows will appear.
**Important points regarding Case It v6.07 for the Mac:
1. Case It will automatically open web sites for bioinformatics applications, so that text (e.g. sequence data) generated by Case It can be pasted into input fields on these web sites. If you have rebooted your computer and not copied or pasted anything in another application, then the pasting feature of Case It may not work. To fix this, simply copy and paste any text in an application such as TextEdit or Word, before or after opening Case It.
2. Case It v6.07 for the Mac is not designed for direct integration with MEGA software, but rather uses the MABL web site for multiple alignment and tree-building. As this web site can be unreliable, we highly recommend using Case It v7 instead, as it opens MEGA* software and also accesses the MAFFT and MABL web sites. MAFFT is always functional, whereas the MABL site may or may not be.
3. In reality, the Mac beta version is a modified PC version that runs on a virtual desktop. Because it runs on a virtual desktop, there are some differences in how windows behave (e.g., dragging the main window a short distance if other windows do not appear or are unresponsive). Please report any anomalies in the operation of the software to mark.s.bergland@uwrf.edu.
